A test order lets you check whether orders from EffectConnect reach your webshop or e-commerce system correctly, and whether shipping updates come back properly. This way, you know everything works before your first real marketplace orders arrive.
What is a test order?
A test order is a fictional order you create yourself in EffectConnect. It does not come from a marketplace and is never sent to a marketplace.
EffectConnect marks every test order as 'Test'. You cannot remove this characteristic, so it is always clear that the order is a test.
With a test order, you can:
- Check whether orders are exported correctly to your webshop.
- Test the order import through your own API connection.
- Check whether all order data is transferred correctly, such as addresses, prices, shipping costs and order attributes.
- Test whether shipping updates from your webshop reach EffectConnect.
Tip: test different situations. For example, an order with several products, a foreign shipping address, shipping costs or an externally fulfilled order (such as LVB or FBA).
Create a test order
- Go to Orders > Order overview.
- Click the three dots in the top right.
- Select Create test order.
- Choose the channel you want to create the test order for.
- Check the customer details. EffectConnect fills in fictional details by default. You can change them by clicking 'Edit'.
1. Summary
This is where you set up the basics of the test order.
- Channel: choose the channel the test order should appear to come from, such as Bol or Amazon. The order uses this channel's settings, but is never sent to the marketplace. This field is required.
- Status: the order status the test order starts with. By default, this is Paid, just like a new marketplace order. Choose another status if you want to test how your webshop handles it. As a rule, we never forward shipped orders.
- Properties: fixed order properties that EffectConnect uses during processing. The Test property is always present and cannot be removed. Want to test an externally fulfilled order (LVB or FBA), for example? Add that here.
- Tags (optional): add your own tags, for example to find the test order easily or to test whether your tag rules work.
2. Billing address
EffectConnect fills in a fictional billing address by default. Click Edit to change it. For example, you can enter a company name, a foreign address or an address with a house number addition. This lets you test whether your webshop transfers these details correctly.
3. Shipping address
The shipping address is also fictional by default and differs from the billing address. Click Edit to change it. For example, test a shipping address in another country or a different recipient.
Do not use real customer data. Do you use a real address anyway? Then make sure the test order is not shipped by accident.
Good to know: You need at least one active channel and one product to create a test order.
Order lines
An order line is a product in the order. Click Add order line and fill in the following:
- Product: Click Add product and choose a product from your catalogue in EffectConnect. Choose a product that also exists in your webshop, otherwise the import may fail.
- Quantity: How many items the customer orders. By default, this is 1.
- Total amount: The total amount of this order line. By default, this is € 0. Enter a realistic amount so you can check whether prices and totals reach your webshop correctly.
- Fees (optional): Click Add fees to add costs to this line, such as commission.
- Attributes (optional): Click Add attribute to add extra data to the order line. Use this if you want to test whether your webshop picks up specific extra information correctly.
Click Apply to add the order line.
➡️ Want to test an order with several products? Repeat these steps for each product.
Order attributes and totals
If you like, add extra details, such as:
- Order attributes
- Fees:
- Shipping costs
- Transaction costs
- Commission
- Comment
Then save the test order.
Receive the test order in your webshop
How the test order reaches your webshop depends on your connection.
➡️ Do you use a plugin or standard connection?
EffectConnect queues the test order for export to your webshop. Open the order detail page to follow the export status.
Want to start the export again?
Open the test order and select 'Export order to back office' under Actions.
➡️ Do you use your own API connection?
Your system retrieves the test order through the EffectConnect API, just like a regular order.
Test order not arriving?
Open the test order and check:
- whether there is an error message or a tag such as order import failed;
- whether your connection is active and the API keys are correct;
- whether the product also exists in your webshop.
No error message, but the order still doesn't arrive? Then contact Customer Support.
A setting in your account may be blocking the export of test orders. We can check this for you.
Test the shipping updates
Is the test order in your webshop? Then also test whether the shipping information comes back to EffectConnect. For real orders, EffectConnect forwards this information to the marketplace to mark the order as shipped.
- Open the test order in your webshop.
- Add a Track & Trace code and carrier.
- Mark the order as shipped.
- Open the test order in EffectConnect.
- Check whether the status has been updated and whether the Track & Trace code and carrier are visible.
Add the Track & Trace code before or at the same time as shipping. If you add the code later, after the order has already been reported as shipped, it may no longer reach EffectConnect.
Shipping updates not arriving?
Check in your webshop whether:
- the order is actually marked as shipped;
- the correct order status is used;
- the Track & Trace code is correct;
- the correct carrier is filled in.
Is data missing, or does your webshop use a different status? Then EffectConnect may not be able to process the update correctly.
Need help?
