What is a base mapping?
A base mapping is an overarching mapping rule that includes a set of general attributes relevant to various categories within marketplaces. The attributes included must be present in at least 50% of the categories. By adding product attributes or fixed values, you can seamlessly link additional information to the marketplace attributes, which will then automatically flow into your standard mapping rules.
You can easily deviate from the base mapping for each mapping rule by configuring your own or different attributes or values in the relevant rule.
Base mapping is set individually for each marketplace.
Where can you find the Base mapping?
Go to Apps > Your Apps > open the relevant channel and go to the 'Content Mapping' tab.

Add Base Mapping
If there is no existing mapping for the relevant marketplace in EffectConnect, you can start by setting up the base mapping. You can then create underlying mapping rules where the basic attributes are automatically added.
- Open the relevant channel in EffectConnect > go to the 'Content Mapping' tab > click on 'Set Base Mapping rule'.
Mapping base attributes
You will now see an overview of all attributes that occur in multiple product categories within the marketplace.
- Click on 'Add attribute'
- Then click on 'Own attribute' > select the desired attribute from the dropdown menu.
- Set a default value: for each attribute, you can set a default value that will act as a safety net if no attribute value is known (optional).
Attributes that appear in only one or a few product categories will not be displayed in the base mapping overview but can be found in the specific mapping rule where you can map them.
Deviating from Base Mapping
Within the regular mapping rules, you can also decide whether you want to deviate from the base mapping.
When you click on an attribute in an underlying mapping rule, you can choose from the following options:
- Custom set attribute and values take precedence over base mapping (Default):
When you map attributes in the regular mapping based on specifications, these will take precedence over the linked values set in the base mapping. In other words, the base mapping serves only as a fallback when no value is set.
- Base mapping takes precedence over custom set attributes and values:
The base mapping will override any custom attributes/values you have set.
- Do not use base mapping within this mapping rule:
The base mapping will be ignored.
FAQ
When you have the option to choose from fixed values in the base mapping, we also consider overarching values. However, it may occur that you select a fixed value that is not present within a specific category. In this case, that value will be ignored. You will then need to deviate in the regular mapping and set a value.
