Every seller wants to sell as much as possible on marketplaces — with healthy margins, of course. But it’s just as important to show the right products on the right marketplace, with the right stock, price and content. That’s exactly what product selections in EffectConnect are for.
In this blog, we’ll explain what product selections are, how they work, and how to use them across your sales channels.
Why product selections matter
Your webshop’s product range often grows faster than expected. Product selections help you keep control and make the right choices across multiple channels automatically.
By linking a specific product selection to each marketplace, you control exactly which products are visible in each location. This helps you avoid listing items on the wrong channels and stay in charge of your assortment.
No more assigning products manually. Once set up, product selection rules automatically apply to new products as they enter your system.
Use clear conditions or filters to avoid mistakes like listing products at too low a price, or offering brands you're not allowed (or don’t want) to sell on marketplaces.
In short: more control, less manual work.
What are product selections?
As the name suggests, it’s a selection of products.
A product selection can be a static list of hand-picked products. But it can also be dynamic: a live selection based on filters and rules applied to product attributes, such as:
-
Brand or category
-
Stock levels
-
Price
-
Supplier
-
Tags or other characteristics
Only want to list brand X, with at least 5 units in stock, and a minimum price of €20?
Just build a product selection with those rules.
How do I create a product selection?
Want a step-by-step guide on setting up a product selection? Check out the article Jenny wrote in our knowledge base. Need personal advice? Reach out via chat — Jenny, Maartje, Gwen, or Rick will be happy to help with your specific case.
Prefer to try things out yourself? Go ahead. Creating a new product selection won’t affect anything unless you actively link it somewhere in the platform.
Just make sure your saved selection doesn’t show an error and includes more than zero products.
Where can I use product selections?
Product selections are used in many parts of our software:
-
Product listings on specific marketplaces
-
Price markups, price planners, and repricing rules
-
Price rounding
-
Fixed stock settings
-
Content mapping
-
Other product selections
Product listings
This is the most well-known usage: linking a product selection to your marketplace feed.
If a product is not part of the selection linked to your marketplace listing, it won’t be sent. The selection under “Product Listing” is the main filter.
For example, if you're using another product selection for fixed stock, we’ll still check first if that product is in the base selection. If not, nothing gets sent.
Markups, Price Planner, Repricer
Markups
Go to Prices > Markups to link a product selection to a markup rule. For example: add €5 to all products priced under €15.
First, create a selection for products under €15. Then link it to your markup rule.
Price Planner
In the Price Planner (Prices > Price Planner), you can add a product selection and schedule a temporary discount just for that group.
Repricer
In the Repricer, click the third checkbox “set condition” to link an existing product selection. The repricer will only calculate prices for the items in that selection.
Price rounding
You can round off prices before they’re sent to a marketplace.
Open a channel, go to the Settings tab > and then click Prices.
Scroll down to the Round prices setting. You can round prices for your entire catalogue or just a specific selection (e.g. all T-shirts).
For example: a T-shirt priced at €20,50 can be rounded up to €20,99.
If a product isn’t in the selected group? We’ll just send the regular price.
Note: If you're using the repricer, avoid rounding. It may cause you to lose the buy box.
Stock
Want to cap marketplace stock at 50 units — even when your system has more?
Set up a selection with the rule: stock greater than 50. Then, in your channel’s settings, go to Settings > Stock and apply the selection.
If an item has 900 units in your system, we’ll still only send 50 — until stock drops to 50 or lower. Then the product falls out of the selection, and we send the real stock again.
Content
Want to only send content to the marketplace for specific products?
Link a product selection to the content sync. By default, the general selection under “Product Listing” is used. To change this, go to a channel, click the Synchronisations tab > and then Content.
Here, you can assign a different selection just for content sync, without pushing a product offer yet. This lets you check if the content looks good before making the item live.
Just don’t forget to add the product to the main selection as well, so the offer, price and stock updates get pushed too.
Nested product selections
You can refer to one product selection inside another.
For example, you want to reuse your base selection, but add extra conditions. Just use the rule “product in selection is one of” and choose the selection you want.
Now you can add more filters like brand, category, or other attributes.
Tips for better product selections
Use clear names
Whether you're just starting or have years of experience, clear naming keeps your setup manageable. Stick to a structure. That way, you’ll always know what’s what.
Use tags
Tags also help you stay organised — even for existing selections.
For example: add a “repricer” tag to all repricer selections, or a “Bol” tag for everything linked to Bol.com. You can add multiple tags per selection. Then simply filter by tag in the overview to find what you need fast.
Combine conditions smartly
Avoid creating 20 separate blocks like:
-
EAN = X
-
EAN = Y
Instead, use “is one of” and select multiple values in one go. Much cleaner and faster.
Keep your selections up-to-date
Review your selections now and then. Are your conditions still in line with your current strategy? Are there selections you don’t use anymore?
Did you know…?
You can also use product selections in custom attributes.
Want to assign a new attribute to a group of products with one value? Use a selection.
For example: products with 1–2 day delivery vs. 3–5 day delivery. Create an attribute called “delivery time” and map it using these groups.
In summary
Product selections in EffectConnect help you automate product listings based on rules.
By setting smart conditions, you stay in control, save time, and reduce errors.
